Adoption in Australia

40,000 Australian children are in need of a family but only hundreds of adoptions are finalised every year, which has been declining over the past 25 years.

While ensuring child safety is important, the process taking years leads to many negative effects on the children as well such as higher risk of substance abuse, health issues and trauma as 40% have to move over 10 times in 2 years.

Instead of focusing on how to handle children when they are in the adoption system, child protection policies should focus more on finding a permanent outcome and home for the child.
